“Baal-perezim\u00a0woke me up early one morning about five years ago,” explains poet and singer Medda Beam. “A certain line entered my mind while I was still dreaming and struck me as peculiar, which roused me from sleep: Burning my defender, snob breaking my gender…<\/em><\/p>\n

“It was a strange yet compelling line and I wanted to write it down before I forgot. As soon as I did, the rest came tumbling out…”[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”1580″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

Baal-perazim<\/h1>\n

It is possible, after all, to fight fire with fire<\/p>\n

Burning my Defender, snob breaking my gender<\/p>\n

You have ignited anger in the hearts of powerful ones<\/p>\n

Fire, in glorious fury, has indeed come,<\/p>\n

To your chagrin and the delight of your captives<\/p>\n

Yet for millennia have you not been<\/p>\n

A vortex of monstrous pain and suffering?<\/p>\n

Foaming at the wet chasm<\/p>\n

You have swallowed lives whole<\/p>\n

He and we will take no rest<\/p>\n

Until they are restored and you have been<\/p>\n

Vanquished into your own eddy of despair<\/p>\n

Woman hater, woe to you, you devil!<\/p>\n

Your defeat will grieve you more than your demise<\/p>\n

For it will come at hands you considered insignificant<\/p>\n

You never esteemed them as opponents<\/p>\n

Yet here they are ascending<\/p>\n

Once your propeller, great pride now<\/p>\n

Aggravates the sting of your loss<\/p>\n

As for those you once subdued in a sea of dismay?<\/p>\n

Bubbling, bursting for the joy set before them<\/p>\n

They extend fresh joints<\/p>\n

And flex muscles no longer fatigued<\/p>\n

By the effort of keeping abreast<\/p>\n

In an ocean that was never their intended place<\/p>\n

Some, unaware that they ever had a body, are<\/p>\n

Prompted by surprise!<\/p>\n

They take heart and hammer, keen for action<\/p>\n

In your eyes weak with arrogance,<\/p>\n

Their courage is offensive audacity<\/p>\n

But Truth reveals<\/p>\n

It was never confidence in themselves–<\/p>\n

You saw to that<\/p>\n

Therefore, from whence cometh such assurance<\/p>\n

Which is truly blessed,<\/p>\n

But to you is a curse?<\/p>\n

You could not conceive of a man<\/p>\n

Who would lead women into battle<\/p>\n

A man humble and flint-faced unto slaughter<\/p>\n

He was like one of the women to you!<\/p>\n

You discounted him as you discounted them<\/p>\n

He rationed his own valor without measure<\/p>\n

It fostered an unflinching calm;<\/p>\n

In the midst of your tempestuous vendetta<\/p>\n

You were found shadow-boxing<\/p>\n

Your victims are forever dispatched<\/p>\n

From the void of your presence<\/p>\n

The one who called them away<\/p>\n

Stares you dead in the eye, storm,<\/p>\n

And utters the dreaded command,<\/p>\n

“Peace, be still.”<\/p>\n
