He knocked on the door.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho is it?\u201d a scratchy voice called within.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c It is I, Grandmother, Lettie, come to deliver a basket of goods,\u201d the false child said.<\/p>\n<p>The older woman was sitting up in bed looking expectant.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHello Lettie! What have brought me?\u201d she beamed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNothing much Grandmother, but food, and a present.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh what is it? Come closer so I can see it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He moved closer, siding up to the bed.<\/p>\n<p>The old seer squinted. Her eyes had grown weak.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere is it my child?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have it here, in my hand. Take a closer look, grandma.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The seer, curious of what the child had brought, leaned over the bed.<\/p>\n<p>The wicked creature grinned, and reached up so fast. His hand was a blur. The old woman\u2019s eyes widened.<\/p>\n<p>The wolf smiled again and rows of sharp teeth had appeared.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid you not like my present dear?\u201d His voice was fluttery.<\/p>\n<p>A thin line of blood shown on the woman\u2019s throat where the knife had cut. She fell dead, a look of horror upon her face.<\/p>\n<p>The wolf sniffed delicately.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGuess not.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Little Lettie made her way down the path. The sun was on the horizon as she came to her grandmother\u2019s house. All was silent. The birds did not sing and the woods were cold.<\/p>\n<p>She knocked on the door.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHello? Grandmother? It is Lettie. I\u2019ve come to deliver goods.\u201d She opened the door but the house was dark.<\/p>\n<p><em>Grandmother must be asleep<\/em>, she thought, so she let herself in.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHello, Granny? It\u2019s Lettie, I\u2019ve come to give you some goods.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCome in closer,\u201d a soft voice whispered.<\/p>\n<p>The room was quickly becoming dark as the sun set in the distance.<\/p>\n<p>Lettie looked towards the empty beaded frowned in confusion.<\/p>\n<p>The door shut behind her. She whirled around only to face nothing!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been waiting for you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The whisper came from her left where a rocking chair sat.<\/p>\n<p>The room was dark \u2014 except for the lone candle which was beside the chair where a man sat. His silver eyes gleamed and a wicked smile was upon his lips.<\/p>\n<p>Lettie was afraid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho are you? Where is my grandmother?\u201d Her voice was frantic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe is dead, child.\u201d The man frowned.\u00a0\u201cDo you not remember me Lettie?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cY-you are the wolf! You\u2019ve been following me! Why are you here? My mother told me that you were of the devil.\u201d Her eyes glistened with tears.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDear one, I should hope, so if not who would I be?\u201d he sighed.\u00a0\u201cI am here because I\u2019ve been watching you. Just ass you said, but it is only because I love you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou cannot love! You are evil!\u201d Lettie was shaking.\u00a0\u201cWhy have you done this? If you loved me you would not have done this this!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do love you! I have done this so we could be together. So you could be mine.\u201d \u00a0His voice was fevered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hate you!\u201d Lettie scorned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat does not change anything. You will not escape me. Not ever. If you fight me I will kill your mother.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will do whatever you wish,\u201d Lettie sobbed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know what I want.\u201d The wolf&#8217;s eyes darkened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll right.\u201d She continued to sob as he stood up.<\/p>\n<p>Lettie&#8217;s cloak came undone from her shoulders and fell to the floor in a pile of crimson.<\/p>\n<p>The wolf smiled and his long teeth gleamed in the candlelight.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cW-what big teeth you have wolf,\u201d Lettie whimpered in fear. A lone tear made its way down her cheek.<\/p>\n<p>His smile grew impossibly wide.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll the better to eat with, my dear,\u201d the wolf growled.<\/p>\n<p>He leaned forward and blew out the candle.
