Presented during SOTO June 2019 Writers Artists Night.[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\">Water to Red<\/h1>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">by Rachel Riutzel<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">What is it that we refuse to see?<br \/>\nWhy does the world face the same predicaments<br \/>\nClinging to their history?<br \/>\nSociety is fuming, mankind up in arms<br \/>\nEach unique cause we battle for, to try to soothe our harms<br \/>\nAlthough beauty has never ceased to exist<br \/>\nIn polluted, ugly waters it sits<br \/>\nThese waters, stirred up by calloused hearts<br \/>\nEach wound affecting generations of moving parts<br \/>\nThese hearts didn&#8217;t arrive there by being told<br \/>\nThey really didn&#8217;t mean to be so cold<br \/>\nThe resistance, the rejection, the pains of life<br \/>\nIt constructed the layers, carved with each knife<br \/>\nIt warps and it hides<br \/>\nConcealing instead of healing<br \/>\nThe connection that keeps us strong<br \/>\nSeeing past our bad, all of our wrong<br \/>\nThe connection that enables us to endure<br \/>\nThe vicious acts of nature, whose torment is sure<br \/>\nThe vital antidote to our broken system<br \/>\nHas been lost in the smoke, dismissing all wisdom<br \/>\nIf we could only see that with it<br \/>\nOur condition could take the hardest hit<br \/>\nThis antidote has existed to many since time<br \/>\nBroke through the universe, a collision divine<br \/>\nCould we have seen that our own version of the antidote<br \/>\nWould prevent it from becoming the cure?<br \/>\nAll we&#8217;ve done to it is obscure<br \/>\nIf we could see this cure in its purest form<br \/>\nWould we accept it?<br \/>\nIf we saw its raw, natural state, would we finally believe it?<br \/>\nWho told us these things?<br \/>\nWho convinced us what to believe?<br \/>\nWho taught us how to act, and what to perceive?<br \/>\nWould you accept that you too have been deceived?<br \/>\nCould we see it for what it really is?<br \/>\nCan we acknowledge the truth if it surely exists?<br \/>\nWe\u2019ve been in it for too long<br \/>\nWe know the dances and every single song<br \/>\nHow did it happen? How did we go wrong?<br \/>\nYes, we are wrong, we are so very wrong<br \/>\nFrom the tops of these hills, I declare we\u2019ve done it wrong!<br \/>\nThey loved him, they loved, they loved him so much<br \/>\nOne look from him, that one little touch<br \/>\nThey were healed, they were free,<br \/>\nWhy do we refuse to see!<br \/>\nWe sit in our pews, right under that steeple<br \/>\nWe notice the pain, all the worn-out people<br \/>\nOur sins aren&#8217;t as great as theirs, oh no<br \/>\nWe won&#8217;t let them see ours, no no<br \/>\nOur thoughts are directed<br \/>\nBy the system we&#8217;ve erected<br \/>\nThe genocide to our souls is true<br \/>\nMaybe it&#8217;s happened to you<br \/>\nThey sit and they see us<br \/>\nYet our self-righteousness<br \/>\nBlocks their view of Jesus<br \/>\nWhat if I told you he came for the sheep?<br \/>\nWould those words be enough for us to keep<br \/>\nOur judgments, our glares, our snooty little stares<br \/>\nFrom damaging the masses, does anybody else care?<br \/>\nLook what we&#8217;ve done, we&#8217;ve broken the story<br \/>\nThe one that sits in all Heaven&#8217;s glory<br \/>\nHe said it himself, he came for the sheep<br \/>\nThose held by chains of the rules that they keep<br \/>\nThose rules multiply, they breed<br \/>\nSkimming past everything that we need<br \/>\nTurning our free will into costly webs<br \/>\nCan we not just get it, get it out of our heads?<br \/>\nThe sheep hanging lost by the ropes of the rules<br \/>\nWe follow them closely, taking heed to the cues<br \/>\nWe sit, we stand, we pray, and we grin<br \/>\nBut why do we still see people as sin?<br \/>\nOn death he rode to save our hearts<br \/>\nYet today we refuse, we can&#8217;t even start<br \/>\nA conversation, an understanding<br \/>\nNothing that\u2019s close to our minds expanding<br \/>\nNo, let&#8217;s see what the news says, the rants and the raves<br \/>\nWhile human souls slip into the graves<br \/>\nIf you still don&#8217;t believe the words Jesus said<br \/>\nLook beyond the waters and into the Red<br \/>\nHe tells us clearly in Matthew 15<br \/>\nI&#8217;ve only come for them<br \/>\nThe lost sheep of the House I&#8217;ve seen<br \/>\nAnd then his 12 closest, to what did he say?<br \/>\nHe told them to find them, those lost and astray<br \/>\nYet not to the Gentiles<br \/>\nNot to the unbelievers<br \/>\nBut to the lost Jews<br \/>\nMatthew 10 paints the picture<br \/>\nOf these stunning views<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s mind-blowing, I know<br \/>\nThis isn&#8217;t some show<br \/>\nThe smoke and mirrors are losing control<br \/>\nHistory repeats &#8216;cuz the lessons ain&#8217;t learned<br \/>\nTheir trust and their love, we have not earned!<br \/>\nSo listen up, let&#8217;s stand in the masses<br \/>\nAnd finally admit we can all be little asses<br \/>\nLet&#8217;s just be real, let&#8217;s just see<br \/>\nYou for you and me for me<br \/>\nCome along on this journey, and you&#8217;ll see<br \/>\nThe sheep will come home<br \/>\nThey&#8217;ll come home, it will be[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;7766&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Above, original artwork by Carla Davidson, inspired by Water to Red by Rachel Riutzel.
