Hey There, Grandpa
by Josh Huxtable (art by Heath Copper)
Hey there grandpa, can I sit and talk?
You use to tell me stories, that I’ve never forgot.
You’d tell me about your war days.
How it was hell on earth.
You’d say it’d try a man to his core.
But it’d reveal his worth.
You’d tell me about your younger days.
The games you and your friends would play.
And all the trouble you’d get in to.
All the things you would do.
You learned many lessons.
You went through heartaches and good times.
You found love and you found life.
Many happy years, that just seem to have flown by.
So hey there, grandpa.
I won’t let you down.
I’ll pass on what you taught me.
And keep your memory around.
Hey there, grandpa.
Just one more thing before I go.
I’ll love and miss you forever.
I just wanted you to know.
